Session Notes
My second-year lecturer Jaime Pardo recommended a guest talk by a man known as Jason Pickthall who is an experienced and talented concept artist ranging from 3d and 2d design. Moreover, throughout the brief talk, his opinions and personal workflow was similar to my own as well as some of my colleagues such as James Campbell.
For instance, he gave a detailed and honest answer of how fast and brutal the creative industry can be as he applied for a job overseas only to find that the development team had been informed they were shut down.
Jason's personal story and portfolio impressed me and gave me insight into my own career and how I need to develop my experience in combining other mediums such as graphic, photography and other forms of design in my work in order to not only make my work fulfil the vision in my mind but to make the process of how I design not as generic as everyone else.
Pickthall expressed his opinion on this similar point stating that he personally does not browse around at gawp at other artists and designers work for long in order to work and craft in his own way and style otherwise instead of using other designers work as inspiration for technique or concept you fully emulate another personas style and then you have twenty people with the same workflow applying for one potion.
As a side note my animation lecturer Jackie managed to bring Jason over to quickly gave his thoughts on my current projects such as the Nomad and Indigo Angel. Jason expressed that he found nice however recommenced applying a variety of crystal shard sizes for the angel and perhaps adding some mismatched pieces of cloth for my nomadic character to show his wandering nature and having to repair clothing from whatever materials he can find.
